Sonakshi set for her South debut

Nothing can stop the Southern superstar from scaling new milestones and despite news of his fragile health; Rajnikanth is all ready for his next film. The latest buzz is that both Sonakshi Sinha and Singham 2 (south) actress Anushka Shetty are the top contenders for the female leads. Supposedly the two roles are a girl-next-door from another era and the other, a stylish modern girl. Meanwhile, Sonakshi who loved the script has been given first preference to pick the role of her choice. The film to be written and directed by KS Ravikumar, who has also penned the story and screenplay for Kochadaiiyaan, is a period romance that starts in the ’50s and continues to the present day. The film is expected to begin shooting towards the end of May on a lavish set being erected in Mysore and might get dubbed in Hindi too.

Jackie Shroff nervous about son Tiger's 'Heropanti' release

Actor Jackie Shroff is happy that his son Tiger is making his acting debut with 'Heropanti' but is also feeling nervous as a father.

Tiger is making his foray into Bollywood with romantic-action film 'Heropanti'.

"I don't know what feelings I have now after seeing him (Tiger) on screen. I am obviously happy to see him. But there is nervousness as he has given exams (done the film) and waiting for the result," Jackie told reporters here at the trailer launch of 'Heropanti'.

As his son Tiger was being introduced by superstar Aamir Khan to the media, Jackie stood behind in the crowd and was seen clicking photos.

"..What do I say about him, the trailer...it looks fantastic. I thank Sajid Nadiadwala, Sabbir Khan, UTV for launching my son. I thank Aamir and Subhash Ghai by coming here for the trailer launch and making this event memorable," Jackie said.

Jackie's wife Ayesha got emotional seeing her son Tiger on screen.

"Big thank you to the team for making this film with my son and to all present here. I am proud of my son...its an emotional moment for me," she said.

'Heropanti' is presented by UTV Motion Pictures & Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and directed by Sabbir Khan.

The movie is slated to release on May 23.

Movie Review: Main Tera Hero

Director: David Dhawan
Cast: Varun Dhawan, Ileana D'Cruz, Nargis Fakhri, Arunoday Singh, Anupam Kher

Who isn’t guilty of enjoying a little extra cheese and corn in their movies? David Dhawan has made a career serving up an abundance of ultra-corny entertainment. But slapstick is an acquired taste. Main Tera Hero (MTH) is a textbook David Dhawan movie. This is the kind of low-brow humour you enjoy without pretensions. It’s not great cinema but it is a paisa vasool comedy.

The movie begins with the line, “Kutte ki dum aur Katrina Kaif ki Hindi kabhi seedhi nahin ho sakti.” So you know what you’re in for. But the age-old formula has worked before and the law of averages isn’t going to change just yet. Most people will sit through MTH with a big grin plastered on their faces. And then some will hold their stomachs laughing hard because this film gives you unadulterated massy humour. And it is effective.

Varun Dhawan (Sreenath ‘Seenu’ Prasad) is a naughty, happy-go-lucky guy who almost everyone hates in his town but he’s unapologetic about his ways. When he decides to go study in Bengaluru, he falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana D’Cruz). Needless to say, there’s a catch. She’s engaged to a cop (Arunodaya Singh) with anger management issues. For most part, he’s trying to outwit the angry young man. Enter Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), who falls in love with Seenu. She’s the daughter of the biggest gangster of ‘Asia and Africa’ (Anupam Kher) and desperately wants to possess him. The story though not refreshingly new accommodates enough gags and comedic punches needed to make a feel-good film. Some gags are genuinely hilarious. Like the bhajan tuned to Badtameez dil, Seenu’s communication with God, Kher talking in echoes and many more. There are moments that make you cringe as well. But the end result of the comedy leaves a decent bittersweet taste.

The music of MTH is a winner all the way. Every song will make you want to dance. Palat… tera dhyaan kidhar hai and Galat baat are the pick of the lot. But ultimately, this movie belongs to Varun Dhawan. From the very first frame, Varun has your undivided attention. He may not be Govinda but his comic timing is impeccable. Especially, for a one-film old actor. Screen presence, acting chops; Prabhudheva like dancing skills, this boy has it all. Among the ladies, Ileana gives Varun ample support. She plays to the gallery with confidence and looks stunning too. Nargis’ character is meant to be that of a beautiful distraction in the film and she succeeds at doing that. Arunodaya gets a half-baked (highly confusing) character, which will leave you baffled.

MTH is a good weekend watch with your family, girlfriend or gang of friends. This is pure popcorn entertainment made for hero worshiping masses. And the silver lining is Varun Dhawan, a treasure chest of talent. The next big hero waiting to happen.

Now You See Me

I feel like I've already seen this. With The Illusionist and The Prestige (also starring Michael Caine) still fresh in the memory, the trailer guilty of giving away a lot, and Jesse Eisenberg still playing the smartass motormouth despite a new hairstyle, Now You See Me would want to have some twists and turns. It does. Too many.
The Four Horsemen - Eisenberg, Harrelson, Isla Fisher and James Franco's kid brother - are a gang of Vegas magicians who play tricks 'on a global scale.' What does that mean? Oh, just teleporting willing participants into bank vaults to steal its contents before distributing them Robin Hood style to the audience. Tracking them down is grumpy cynic cop Mark Ruffalo and professional magician debunker Morgan Freeman, sporting some dodgy earrings.
Now You See Me
Who are we rooting for here? Are we hoping the Horsemen get away with it? Their redistribution of wealth politics certainly helps but it's undone by levels of smug that surpass even the Oceans Trilogy. For 118 minutes, Eisenberg and co. revel in the fact that they're smarter than us and let's face it; no one likes a smarty pants. So are we supposed to hope Mark Ruffalo catches them? That's a bit naff, isn't it? We want to see the magic trick that they're bragging about pulling off. For magic to work in a movie, however, a grounded reality has to be established but Transporter/Clash of the Titans director Leterrier hurls us into a world of wonder and piles elaborate prank on fantastic twist. They're more superheroes than magicians at times and it just gets too silly.
But Now You See Me keeps coming. Bar the odd chase sequence, it's very much a talkie and credit where credit's due to Leterrier and his writers that the 'how did they do that?' question keeps things moving and keeps us guessing. They want you to try to figure it out and examine the scenes closely, scenes you just know will be replayed later in the Poirot-esque revelatory flashback montage where you slap your thigh and say, 'should've seen that!' That is fun.
Distracting and diverting entertainment, yes, but did they have to be so conceited about it?

Set to reprise their roles, the cast so far includes, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X and Jason Flemyng as Azazel.

Although plot details are scarce, it's been reported  that the film will be much more action packed.  According to Mark Millar (Marvel's creative consultant), "You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes - it's got everything in one film."

X-Men: Days Of Future Past will hit UK cinemas on 18 July 2014.
